07 Sept 06: My 1st step into Russia

1st stop in Russia: St Petersburg.

Length of travel: 13 Hrs from Riga

Mode of travel: Overnight Train
2nd class 4-berth compartment (aka coupe) but train wasn't full so there were only 2 occupants in the coupe. Yippee!

Train companion: Sweet old russian lady living in Riga, on her way to St Petersburg to visit her grandchildren (tried to practise a bit of Russian on her). Thats her in the photo.

Expectations: Worst scenerio possible -
Border guards give me trouble with my visa/ passport... robbery on the train.. dirty beds... dirty toliets... dead body underneath my bunk... oh yes according to my best friedns: kidnapped to be torture victim of bored rich men (think the movie Hostel). This list goes on & on.

When we got to the Russian border, I actually felt a little scared.

Reality: Best & most comfortable overnight train ride of my entire life
The border guard even told to HAVE A GOOD TRIP!
It was a (disappointingly?!) smooth start to my trip. No dramatic adventures to boost about! DAMN!!!
